The History and Purpose of this Faire

This is the first renaissance faire in Maine in many years and we are 100% committed to offering this faire year after year. We are also determined that all participants take home memories that will bring them back year after year!  We definitely want to give back to the community and will be donating 10% of all our profits to a charity.

At this faire there is no chrome or decorative lighting in a sterile mall atmosphere; instead there are ribbons and flags waving in the wind, the sound of bells, of lutes, of ocarinas in the air, the lilt of foreign accents, the smell of cooking foods and flowers, the warmth of sun on your face and the wind in your hair. The setting aside, what differs more is the people; many, dare I say most, people are at faire because they want to be there. People work at the faire to have fun, to entertain; they want to socialize. If you're willing to play with them, they're happy to banter with you.

We hope you join us for an incredible amount of fun and frolic!

Renaissance Period Clothing:

During The Renaissance, fashion from both Italian and Germanic designers had their influence over European clothing. Each brought something new and exciting to the world of Renaissance fashion.

In the Renaissance popular fashion styles ranged from wide, to barrel-shaped and square fashions.

Clothing then, as now, was a "status" symbol. However it was an even bigger status symbol during the renaissance. Fashion for the wealthy often meant spending a majority of their money on clothing and it was not uncommon for them to literally be 'wearing their wealth'. Darker colors of fabrics became popular to show off the embroidery or jewels that were sewn onto the clothing. The more elaborate the tailoring and craftsmanship, the more expensive the clothing was and helped establish a reputation of wealth for the owner.

To purchase some amazing Medieval and Renaissance period attire, please go to Cloak and Dagger Creations

To rent a costume from our preferred rental company, please go to Drapeau's Costumes of Maine
